march 17 (horsekeeping)

This is a housekeeping post (a.k.a. a "horsekeeping" post), something I do every now and again to get (and keep) things straight and clear in my head but also to use the word "horse" as much as I can. Why? Because horse, that's why.

one offs:

I've been posting more than just the (week)daily post of late and some of those posts have banged (statistically speaking).

Here are some one-offs I haven't really mentioned:

✍🏽πŸ”₯ final final final
✍🏽πŸ”₯ total hysteria
✍🏽πŸ”₯ elmu gets community noted
✍🏽πŸ”₯ decency makes bad guys nervous
✍🏽πŸ”₯ bad and stupid

Here are a few I absolutely have:

✍🏽πŸ”₯ bye bye zuck
✍🏽πŸ”₯ james talarico calls out a liar
✍🏽πŸ”₯ mlk day

Anyway, I think I'm going to write more one-offs independent of the (week)daily post going forward. I (still) instinctively head to Twitter β€”β€” which I do not use anymore β€”β€” when I want to post a thought and I should really do that kind of thing here. Or at least on Threads.

red black comeback's comeback:

Even though he's still building and releasing free apps to enhance your reading experience, my podcast partner Jon has been sick for a while. As such, we haven't recorded a new episode of Red Black Comeback β€”β€” our podcast that's ostensibly about the rebuilding efforts of the Toronto Raptors and Portland Trail Blazers but is also about the NBA, the WNBA, family, friendship, love, sarcasm, Canada, the U.S., life, liberty, and the pursuit of a decent cup of coffee β€”β€” in about a month, but we're getting back in the booth tomorrow.

Here are our last two episodes to warm you back up:

πŸ€πŸ”₯ Poeltl is pronounced "Yak" (1/24/2026)
πŸ€πŸ”₯ Don't buy a Hawks jersey (2/6/2026)

You can subscribe to Red Black Comeback wherever you subscribe to podcasts (except Spotify) but you certainly don't have to. That said, if you do listen we'd love to hear your feedback.

paris, not plastered:

πŸ‡«πŸ‡·πŸ‡«πŸ‡· I have been to Paris many times and actually lived there for a little bit, but all of that happened more than a decade ago and I've also never spent more than like eight hours in Paris without having a drink. All of that is going to change next month, so if you have recommendations for weird, out of the way places (cafes, bars, restaurants, museums, oddities, etc) in the City of Lights that you think a person who knows Paris relatively well may not have frequented (or heard of!), please let me know.

Related: I recently learned that my favourite bar in Paris doesn't exist anymore. As such, let's pour one out for Le Glass, which CondΓ© Nast Traveler once correctly opined had a "Debbie Harry-meets-Jane Birkin vibe."

I mean that in all the good ways but also all the bad ways.

amsterdam the torpedoes:

πŸ‡³πŸ‡±πŸ‡³πŸ‡± We are going back to Amsterdam next month for a wedding and while we are pretty well-versed in re: the city's museums and galleries (we went to Amsterdam for our anniversary in 2023 and knew the Stedelijk staff by name before we left town) we'd love any recommendations for the weird, out of the way cafes and/or bars and/or restaurants and/or grocery stores and/or regional oddities you'd recommend in the City of Lights Venice of the North.

Related: I'm already looking at getting a reservation (weeknight, don't be absurd) at Nnea, which blew our minds last time around.

tortoise, not hare

✍🏽πŸ”₯ About four months ago I shared the first bit of a new story. While work on the next bit has been slow, it has also been steady and I anticipate having a full chapter to show you soon. The main thing I wanted to share with you today that the main character's name was going to be Collin but now it's not. Now it's something else. if you like puzzles, here are all the vowels (including y): 🀠e🀠🀠e🀠y 🀠🀠i🀠🀠e🀠.

brain is broken please dial again

πŸ§ πŸ’€ Sometimes a mf just needs to scroll and scroll and scroll and laugh at a bunch of the dumbest stuff on J.C.R. Licklider's internet so that my brain stops releasing the you-should-run-into-traffic chemicals. These are their my stories. Dun dun.
