I used to love Twitter. I loved the idea, I loved the execution, and I loved how everyone (of a certain kind of person) instinctively knew what we could do with it as well as what could would eventually kill it. While you may think I'm loading up to rant about how contemporary Twitter —— they'll have to pull out my fingernails with pliers before I even think of calling it what it's called now —— offers me a daily reminder of how everything was okay on the internet for a moment before it all went to shit because rich and powerful people with zero charisma and even less imagination have beef with progress, fairness, and equity and their rich and powerful tech contingent have convinced the world that every aspect of humanity needs to be commodified and commoditized because they are so fundamentally empty and unlikeable and unlovable and unfuckable that they have gone all the way around the bend and convinced themselves that we are the NPCs...
...but I was actually going to write about something I did today, and, in so doing, hit the following beats in the following order:
🏀🏀 I used to like to liveblog basketball games on Twitter
🧠🧠 I'm not on Twitter anymore but I didn't nuke my account because I wanted to keep @combatdavey, or, rather, keep it out of the hands of someone else (as I do with my .com and .net for instance)
🔀🔀 I ended up changing my main account's username to @combatdavey1 and moving the @combatdavey username to my burner account (which I only started for giveaways in re: a few things I collect, as a hobby, I'm not Kevin Durant or anything)
And, so, anyway, tonight I felt like throwing it back and as such took a trip to the tall grass and then liveblogged a truly awful and amazing game between Sacramento (who had so many injuries that they only dressed eight players and three of those eight are not good enough to be in the NBA otherwise) and Charlotte on Threads (start here and scroll down or just click through) and it was a good and fun time.
Also, while you're at it, feel free to peep this other post I put up today in an(other) effort to justify the amount of time I spend scrolling Threads hoping to find vestiges of what Twitter used to be.
